G-town Radio Wants You! |
Open Call for Programmers We are well into Fall and G-town Radio is preparing to take the next steps to becoming a true community internet radio station. This means creating a roster of live programmers to take to the air.
This is very exciting for several reasons. Community radio can produce engaging, entertaining and off-beat programming you can't find on mainstream outlets. That fact that G-town Radio is doing it through the internet really makes us trailblazers in this regard. As Philadephia's wireless internet network is rolled out G-town Radio has the potential to redefine how people in Philadelphia share information and communicate as we cover the issues that matter to us. Programmers from across the city are invited to apply. Preference will be given to Germantown residents as well as those in the surrounding neighborhoods. Please send an email to:

The iPod killer is here and it might already be in your pocket. The iPod just turned 5 years old and it dominates the world of portable mp3 players. It's likely no company or product will supplant it from its dominant perch. The question is, "Has the stand alone MP3 player run its course?". Your cellular provider thinks so and is working hard to convince you. (Read the rest after the jump.) |

This is last minute but... City Council to Introduce Resolution Against Further Consolidation of Media Ownership Hear City Councilwoman Blondell Reynolds Brown, Philadelphia's news weeklies, local media advocates, broadcasters, and more speak out against media consolidation as City Council will introduce a resolution urging the FCC to limit big media's corporate control. Come out and support this important event. The resolution will urge the FCC to hold official public hearings on the rules in Philadelphia, so we can tell the FCC directly -- don't give our airwaves away! Here Comes the Funk |
Do you wanna get funky with this?
Time to get down in G-town. The Funkstables take over the studio at 2 pm (EDT, -5 GMT) every Friday for two hours of the funkiest sounds in Philly. Sixties grooves, global funk and classic jawns you won't hear on the radio. Put on your Gordon Gartrelle shirt for these funky, funky sounds. Also, tune in Saturdays starting at 10 am for Afro-Centrifugal. Two hours of the finest sounds in Afro-Beat, Bossa and Reggae. Its a propulsive mix of jams to launch you into your Saturday. Be sure to keep it locked on G-town Radio because the Funkstables return at noon for two more hours of Philly's finest funk. |

Happy Birthday Philebrity! |
G-town Radio sends a big shout out to Philebrity for their 2nd birthday. They are doing it REAL BIG by hosting the second Philebrity Weekender. The insanely packed schedule kicked off last night with several bands at Johnny Brenda's. That was only the tip of the party boat as multiple events are scheduled all weekend long. If you are in or around Philly this weekend we highly recommend hitting at least one (if not all) of these jams. Check out the entire schedule here.
Congratulations Joey & the whole Philebrity gang. |
