The Sound From Germantown

The Catacombs

This show will focus on fast house, dance, tribal, jungle, club and crazy beats from back in the day. I'm talking about Chicago and NYC style house that was produced on 12" vinyl back in the late 70's and early 80's. Music that was played exclusively in after-hours clubs like the Garage in NYC, the Warehouse in San Francisco and Tracks in DC. Then there was the Catacombs in Philly.

Catacombs update: Catacombs is now a twice monthly show on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays from 7-9 PM. Look for updates below on upcoming shows.

Catacombs Sampler Print E-mail

Sample the music I play on The Catacombs... on my blog" What's It All About"  not just for Alfie, but for all of you!  The 12/27 post on my blog has 30 minutes of the show only since the Shirley Bassey 3rd cut started skipping.  I had no clue until I played back the show the next day that this had happened.  Very strange since I continued to broadcast the rest of the show.  Oh well, stay tuned we'll get to the bottom of this eventually!  So you can treat the first post dated 12/27 as a sample of the kind of stuff I play.

Very soon, my lists will be available for listening and downloading on your I-Pod, I-Phone, Cell Phone and your Computer via the very cool program on the "box".  Click here to listen to a few samples.

We'll see you Thursday 1/10 and 1/24 with all new playlists and good stuff from the Dusty Ole' Days when we were looking for the Wild Cherry through the Tunnel and not finding the Limelight, going into the Garage and wondering where the Sound Factory was.  We tripped over the Nile, and found not one but Allegro 2 , where there were so many Stars, and experienced Voodoo while trying to get to a Revival and ending up in Chuck's Recovery Room....after we mad the Olympia Ballroom at the end of the day.  Man, I'm like OLD y'all!

DO YOU REMEMBER??

Out of all the music out there these days, there is really not much that I care to hear.  The radio is just awful with FM sounding like AM 20 years ago.  Do you remember when DAS used to play entire albums when they came out?  I never forget that anything by Earth, Wind and Fire, Stevie, War, Mandrill, Rufus and so many others would be featured for an entire hour.  No commercials!!
Well, I guess satellite is sort of like that but there is still the big corporate mentality associated with it all.  I'm glad to have the opportunity to play some things that I still like after all these years.
