What do you do for G-Town Radio?
Currently, I am the audio-editor of the Grief Journeys Podcast hosted by Janice Tosto.
How long have you been volunteering for G-Town Radio?
I have volunteered since January 2023.
How did you first get involved with G-Town Radio?
After graduating from Temple University during the pandemic it was hard to find jobs in music production. So, I decided to research radio stations in the Philadelphia area. G-Town Radio was my only response. Joanna was amazing and is also a fellow Aries we connected with and she made me feel at home. I met Tom and toured the studio and learned the necessary hands-on training.
What is your favorite thing about working in Community Radio?
I really love the work Janice does. Every day in our current nation we are faced with grief. I think now more than ever everyday American voices are essential. They must be heard. I enjoy the authenticity of the topic and the ability to speak freely about life and the world in general. To have a meaningful message is key.
What do you do when you are not volunteering with G-Town Radio?
What don’t I do? I am recently volunteering at the Philadelphia Library while editing Grief Journey’s and working part-time at Temple University. I am cofounder of the Hopkins & Glover Foundation with my sister Nicole Glover who is a Philadelphia therapist. Our goal is to help everyday Americans get out of the throes of poverty, those employed or unemployed. And I create and record hundreds of songs a year as a musician, singer-songwriter and music producer.
Anything else you would like to add?
As an independent music producer it can be hard to build your experience. This podcast helps me hone my skills while promoting a great message. I make jingles sometimes so if a business needs this work I can aid.
How can listeners get in touch with you?
For music listening I can be found by my name Kara Hopkins on all music platforms. On social media on Instagram my handle is Karaforyou and Soundcloud handle is Kar_free. For email inquiries I can be emailed at Karah304@gmail.com. My website is karamarkproductions.com.
Grief Journeys airs on the last Friday of every month at 7am on G-Town Radio WGGT-LP 92.9 FM and online at gtownradio.com.
