Financing Fixing Big Environmental Problems

today October 7, 2022

Background

Another in our series about the financing of environmental goals.  This time, we examine bottom up “climate financing” or the ways smaller, more local, institutions finance these goals as well as how the federal green bank part of the recent Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) can help. On this show:

  • Sanjay Patnik is the Director of the Center on Regulation and Markets (CRM), a fellow at the Brookings Institution and for the Initiative for Sustainable Energy Policy at Johns Hopkins.  His research focuses on climate policy, particularly from business and finance points of view in order to solve climate problems at the local, national and global levels.  He will be addressing the ways in which smaller and more local institutions can help finance environmental programs and will put these initiatives in a larger context.
  • Christina DeConcini is WRI’s (World Resources Institute) Director of Government Affairs. She oversees WRI’s legislative work and strategy on climate change and energy issues and leads WRI’s Climate Impacts work.  She will be telling us about the environmental effects of the proposed new federal green bank and how it is likely to work as well as other environmental provisions in the IRA.
