2022 Martin Luther King, Jr. Weekend Celebration!
Sponsored by Citizens Charitable Foundation
January 14th – 17th
Theme: Grassroots and Grand Strategies

The African American Museum in Philadelphia and Citizens invite audiences to join us at the Museum for a full weekend of enriching, fun, inspirational, family-friendly activities celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Thanks to the generous support of the Citizens Charitable Foundation, we will offer $2 admission on January 15 and 16, and free admission on January 17.

Themed “Grassroots and Grand Strategies,” this year’s event will highlight the continuum of individual and collective efforts to promote equity, celebrate and facilitate generational advancement, and protect the mental and spiritual wellbeing of historically oppressed peoples. AAMP will offer a full slate of virtual experiences during MLK Weekend, including a special edition of the Disruption Spotlight and Open Mic quarterly event series; a screening of the film “A King in the Wilderness;” a transcribe-a-thon; public dialogues; a children’s book event; and performances. The weekend will culminate with an on-site voter registration drive that will serve as an MLK Day service project.

Partners in creating this year’s celebration include the Charles L. Blockson Afro-American Collection, Temple University Libraries, Christ Church, the African American Children’s Book Project, Dreamline, the League of Women Voters, and the Philadelphia City Commissioners Office.

Due to safety concerns, most events this weekend will be VIRTUAL EVENTS. The museum will be open for visitation with severely limited capacity 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday through Monday, January 15 – 17, 2022. Advance registration is strongly recommended for all in-person visitors. All visitors are required to go through COVID-19 protocols as part of admittance to the Museum. Guests are required to wear masks during their visit, and signage throughout the Museum highlights social distancing and other health and safety guidelines.
