
There are many forms of pollution in our world, some that never existed before. This pollution causes numerous harms to our environment and our health. We explore some forms of this pollution and ways of cleaning up our mess.
- Jordan Gass-Pooré is a New York City-based podcast producer and investigative journalist. A graduate of Texas State University and City University of London, her work has been published in various outlets throughout the US and UK, including NPR, the Guardian and The Times. We talk with her about the second season of her “Hazard NJ” podcast, a production of NJ Spotlight News, the news division of NJ PBS. This season explores PFAS, a class of what is called “forever chemicals” that are wide spread throughout our entire environment and our bodies.
- Maya Elson is a regenerative mycologist, ecologist, and nature connection specialist in Santa Cruz, California. She is knowledgeable about using fungi to help decontaminate areas where toxins have spread, in particular after fire events. Because of climate change, fires are a growing danger, more extreme and occurring in areas not used to such burning, like the fires on the East Coast this summer. We talk with her about mycoremediation, the practice of using fungi to help remediate soils and water polluted by various toxins.
