Sufficient battery storage and fresh water have been problems plaguing the transition to a greener and more sustainable world.  Here are some advances related to those issues.

Dr. Enrique Gomez is professor of Chemical Engineering, Material Science and Engineering and Materials Research Institute, and also Interim Associate Dean for Equity and Inclusion of the College of Engineering all at Pennsylvania State University.  His research is focused on connecting the chemical structure of soft materials to macroscopic properties for the advancement of a sustainable society.  In addition, Dr. Gomez is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and the American Chemical Society.  He will be talking about sustainable batteries and some of the work on this topic his research group is doing.

Dr. Juan Felipe Torres is a Senior Lecturer and convener of Aerodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, and Heat Transfer at the School of Engineering of The Australian National University (ANU) as well as the Group Leader of the ANU HEAT Lab, a research group dedicated to advance technologies based on heat transfer processes for environmental, energy and aerospace applications. His research interests are in complex transport phenomena involving flow of fluids, species, and heat, with applications in environmental, energy and aerospace engineering.  He will be talking about more sustainable advances in desalination processes to provide fresh water and the work in his lab.
