In this episode of “The Truth In This Art Beyond: Philadelphia,” Rob Lee interviews Owen Elphick, a writer, performer, and creator from Storrs, Connecticut and based in Philadelphia, PA. He is the author of Thoughts & Prayers (Wilde Press, 2019), a book-length sequence of poems centered around gun violence in the United States. His writing has been published and presented in various places. He received his BFA in Creative Writing from Emerson College, and in 2020, he received Senior Writing Awards of High Distinction for both Poetry and Nonfiction, the EVVY Award for Outstanding Writing for Stage, and the EVVY Award for Outstanding Poetry. In high school, he was a 2015 Poetry Out Loud National Finalist and Connecticut State Champion. He is also a rapper, actor, beatboxer, and vocalist, and makes music under the name OE. He co-hosts the podcast Toon Tunes with Eliana Ulloa, works as a part-time bookseller and enjoy organizing his books, taking long walks, discussing music, and swordfighting.
