JANUARY 2025 VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
Get to know the G-Town Radio community!
Every month in 2025, we will be highlighting one G-Town Radio volunteer programmer, board member, or organizer in our newsletter.
This month, our spotlight is on Kristina Hill AKA DJ SupaTang, co-host of Reggae Surge.
You can hear Reggae Surge every Saturday 9pm-11pm on G-Town Radio WGGT-LP 92.9 FM and online at gtownradio.com
What do you do for G-Town Radio?
I host, produce, and dj a Reggae show every Saturday.
How long have you been volunteering for G-Town Radio?
I believe I’ve been a part of the G-Town family since 2010/2011. So about 15 to 14 years.
How did you first get involved with G-Town Radio?
Hmmm I can’t remember actually. I’m not sure if I saw an ad on Craigslist or if a friend told me about it. At the time I had put in a demo at another Germantown online station and I remember finding that one on Craigslist.
What is your favorite thing about working in Community Radio?
I like the freedom. Even though my dream was to one day work for Radio One, I love the fact that I have total control of what listeners hear. It’s important to be true to yourself and producing a show that heavily promotes Caribbean culture was always my dream but I wasn’t sure if I would have been able to do that on mainstream radio.
What do you do when you are not volunteering with G-Town Radio?
I do customer service work for a retail company. On my down time, I like to crochet, collect plants, and enjoy great food!
Anything else you would like to add?
G-Town Radio helped amplify not only my voice but others who broadcast there. I don’t know what else I would be doing if I wasn’t on G-Town Radio. My hope is that one day G-Town Radio can get the citywide recognition it deserves.
