In Memoriam John Goodenough, Lithium-Ion Battery Inventor and Nobel Prize Recipient

Background

John Goodenough died recently at 100 years old. He was a friend of the show and was working on new environmentally friendly battery ideas up to the last few years of his life. He was the oldest ever recipient of the Nobel Prize at age 97.

  • John Goodenough.  We replay an interview we did with him in 2017.  At that time, he and his team at the University of Texas in Austin had released information about a new kind of battery they were developing that would be more environmentally sustainable.  He discussed this work with us.
  • Mark Harris.  He is Senior Editor and investigative science and technology reporter at the environmental magazine Anthropocene which reports the latest sustainability science and innovations.  He is also a contributing editor at IEEE Spectrum and writes for a wide range of outlets including Wired, TechCrunch, and MIT Technology Review. He will discuss his observations on which governmental policies have been helpful and which ineffective in reducing greenhouse gas use worldwide.
