Innovation in renewable energy technology continues and shows increasing promise in addressing climate change effectively as well as demonstrates the complexity of the problem.  We are replaying these interviews because of summer vacations. The SEPTA interview, even though previously aired, is timely because of current issues about the SEPTA gas plant.

  • Dr. John Hall is Assistant Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Buffalo School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. He will talk about developments in wind energy technology and their pros and cons.
  • Dr. Nasir Mahmood is a Vice-Chancellor’s Senior Research Fellow at RMIT in Melbourne, Australia.  He will be talking about his team’s work developing a new process for making hydrogen fuel out of sea water (not fresh water) addressing long term environmental problems in hydrogen manufacture.
  • Lisa Hastings and Lynn Robinson live in Philadelphia and have been environmental activists on behalf of the residents there for many years. Lynn is the Director of Neighbors Against the Gas Plants. Lisa is a scientist by training and a life-long environmental advocate. They will be discussing SEPTA’s (Philadelphia’s public transportation provider) request to renew the permit for their natural gas plant in Nicetown and the effects of this plant on this environmental justice community.
