Measures To Improve Our Climate & Lives: New Planet Philadelphia

today February 2, 2024

Background
How we think about, measure, and talk about our world helps us regulate what happens to the health of our society and planet. On this show:
Measuring Our World: Leonard Nakamura is an emeritus economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia.  He also works locally on climate education through the Climate Net-Zero Education Project, part of Philadelphia Neighborhood Networks. Leonard will discuss why accurate measurement is vital to deal with climate change.  He will also talk about humanity’s role in the world, natural capital, and other new ways of thinking about and measuring our economy.

New EPA Methane Fees: The Rev. Dr. Jessica Moerman is a climate and environmental scientist, pastor, educator, and serves as the President and CEO of the Evangelical Environmental Network. The US EPA recently proposed a new methane waste charge on large sources of oil and gas methane pollution. Jessica will discuss why this new charge is significant in the effort to reign in the methane emissions that greatly contribute to global heating.

SEPTA Funding Dilemma: Tim Brown is the Organizing Director for Philly Neighborhood Networks. He gives us his views on the effects SEPTA’s dire funding problems for the people living in southeast Pennsylvania, and the environment at large.
