Get to know the G-Town Radio community!
Every month in 2025, we will be highlighting one G-Town Radio volunteer.
This month, our spotlight is on
Ryan Shatt, host of The Local Music Show.
What do you do for G-Town Radio?
I am a DJ at the radio station – host of The Local Music Show, which features all local bands and artists. On occasion, I have local artists come into the studio to record a live set and interview. The show runs from 8 – 10 PM every second and fourth Wednesday of the month.
How long have you been volunteering for G-Town Radio?
I started DJ’ing in August of 2018.
How did you first get involved with G-Town Radio?
I had an interest in being a DJ and reached out to G-Town Radio via e-mail. I met with Tom and we talked about ideas for a show and my initial idea was that I would play records from my collection and make a point to mention if the band was from Philly. Tom replied with “You should do an all-Philly show.” I said “Well, I’m not sure I can do an all-Philly show.” After thinking about it for a few days, I though, you know, maybe I could do an all-Philly show. And it went from there!!
What is your favorite thing about working in Community Radio?
I really enjoy getting to communicate with local bands and artists. It is very rewarding to have them come into the studio to play their music and have their voice heard. I also enjoy hanging out with my fellow DJ comrades at station events and, at times, outside of the station.
What do you do when you are not volunteering with G-Town Radio?
I work full time as a Geologist for an Engineering/Environmental firm to investigate contaminated soil and groundwater for eventual cleanup. My wife (Maggie) and I have two boys and we are avid skiers and love the outdoors.
How can listeners get in touch with you?
I can be reached by e-mail at phillymusic929@gmail.com. I love it when listeners send me recommendations and also when bands and artists send me their music to play on the air. I always welcome hearing about new bands and artists!
